Artex and other textured surface finishes were very popular within our homes up until a couple of years ago. And that simply leaves us with the issue of what to do with this now it is no longer popular.
Preparation Protect your own floor by setting up plenty of polythene sheets.
Wash off the most severe of any muck or dust within the Artex with a cloth or sponge and hot water and soap and allow to dry.
Using the adhesive
Use a generous coating of PVA adhesive/sealant to the wall or even ceiling. This should become mixed one component PVA to 4 parts water.Clean on and leave to dry up. This will make the brand new coat of plaster stick to the surface.
Suggestion: Turn off the power provide and unscrew any kind of ceiling light fixtures. Wrap them with much more polythene to keep all of them clean and dried out.
Applying the plaster
Apply a thin (3mm or 0. 1in) coat of DO-IT-YOURSELF finishing plaster on the Artex with a plaster's trowel and hawk, keeping it as sleek as possible.Tip: Move the mixed plaster to a carrying panel so that you can hold this close the walls or ceiling while you work.
Once the plaster has begun in order to harden (check the actual tub instructions) damp the surface with a flower sprayer filled with thoroughly clean water and make use of the trowel at a minor angle to give the surface area a final smoothing.
Suggestion getting a good complete on skim plaster can be challenging. You might like to practice first, and even enroll on a filling course.
Safety suggestion
Old Artex films may contain the product. Never sand or even chip away the actual coating as this might release particles in to the air. If within doubt, contact your local authorities or the product or Artex elimination specialist.
